England manager Gareth Southgate has spoken about Jarrad Branthwaite’s first call-up to the England squad. During a meeting with the media on Thursday afternoon to talk about the England squad for the games against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley Stadium in March.
The manager took a number of questions regarding those games. Including Jarrad Branthwaite’s first call-up to the England squad after impressing for Everton this season in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old has previously featured for England’s Under-21 side. who were crowned UEFA European Championship last summer.
Gareth Southgate praised Jarrad Branthwaite’s form this season for Everton.
“He’s played consistently well,” Southgate said at a press conference.
“His development, we watched him as a back-up centre half for the under-21s. If you said a year ago he would consistently play in the Premier League, I would’ve been surprised.
“Credit to Sean Dyche. He’s in on merit, he’s left-footed and we’re looking forward to having a look at him.”
The Gareth Southgate squad not only saw Branthwaite make his debut, but also Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon. Ivan Toney, Joe Gomez and Ben Chilwell also return.
