Guardiola says he has no regrets after being eliminated from the Champions League on penalties against Real Madrid.

Pep Guardiola praised the efforts of his players throughout the game, despite being eliminated by the most decorated team in the competition.

“I have no regrets over what we’ve done,“ Guardiola said. “In other sports we would’ve won with our statistics but this is the marvellous thing about football.“

“Johan Cruyff said luck doesn’t exist and I agree with him. We couldn’t score tonight. It hurts but what a fantastic way to lose. We feel bad tonight and we’ll have to lift ourselves.“

“What can I say to these players? We needed to show that we were ourselves and that what we did. It’s not been enough, OK.“

“Always as managers we try to create more and concede less in every single game because that helps to win. We did everything, defensively and offensively.

“They made a good goal. There were two, three, four transitions but it is normal at that level with the quality they have.

“We played exceptionally in all departments. Unfortunately, we could not win. It is what it is.”

Manchester City will look to bounce back from the loss to Real Madrid ahead of the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea on Saturday.
